Ruby
Published in Hardcover by Putnam Pub Group Juv (May, 1991)
Average review score:

Ruby deserves betterAs a mother of three, I've read innumerable children's books over the years, and I would have to say that Ruby is my favorite. This is a bear who teaches us what it means to have "character." I wish more children's books could be this entertaining and enlightening.

Sam's Teddy Bear
Published in Library Binding by William Morrow (May, 1998)
Average review score:

Delights in it's simplicityThe Sam books by Barbro Lindgren are very simple and wonderful to share with small children who are just starting to be interested in books. My one year old loves this book. The pictures are nice and the text on each page short, making it an ideal choice for little ones with limited attention spans.

Sandbear
Published in Hardcover by Bloomsbury USA (June, 2002)
Average review score:

nfwThis is a delightful book. The illustrations are happy and colorful. Hare becomes Sandbear's "rescuer" after a surprise, unsuspected "accident." A very sweet, clever story. Can't wait to read it to my grandchildren!

Sarah Bear and Sweet Sidney
Published in Unknown Binding by Simon & Schuster (Juv) (December, 2001)
Average review score:

Great book for children to "picture read" if they can't readThis book is great to read just before spring arrives. It has wonderful pictures that even the youngest reader can enjoy and talk about. The book is well written and captures the joy and suspense of "when Spring will arrive." Anyone who has ever felt "spring fever" will appreciate this book.

The Scared Little Bear
Published in Hardcover by Orchard Books (September, 2000)
Average review score:

Bold and FunI loved this pop-up book the minute I opened up to the first page and first pop-up. The pictures are colorful and bold. The pop-ups are large and jump right out at you. It made me laugh and put a big smile on my face. The pop-ups are creative and clever. I'm anxious to see Faulkner's other pop-up books. They come highly recommended, just as this one did.

Scaredy Bear: Turn on the Light
Published in Hardcover by Bodley Head (February, 1998)
Average review score:

Lots of fun!My daughter is 15 months old and loves this book! It is the book she continually brings to us to read to her. She points to the pages and can "turn on the light" by pulling the flap. When she is older it will be reassuring for her to understand that there are no monsters hiding in the dark, ending with a reassuring "turn off the light, good night." The pages are durable but the flaps can bend with continued use. The illustrations are simple but cute. This is definately a book we will keep for a long time.

Scripture Keeper Heartwarming Bear
Published in Hardcover by Zondervan (19 June, 1998)
Average review score:

The "J" Is For JesusMy 4 year old son loved this book. He couldn't wait to tell the story of the Candy Cane to his friends. In his school Christmas program, he held his candy cane upside down to represent Jesus. He insisted we buy candy canes to give to all his friends for Christmas. The description of each part of the Candy Cane and how it relates to God was a wonderful message to teach during this hectic Holiday Season. It was something we talked about often.

Selina and the Bear Paw Quilt
Published in Paperback by Crown Pub (April, 1999)
Average review score:

Selina and the Bear Paw QuiltSelina and the Bear Paw Quilt is a wonderful children's book rich with American heritage. It is a tender story about a girl's sadness to leave her Grandmother as their family flees the conflict of Civil War and moves to Canada. Selina finds comfort in her memories found in the fabrics of the quilt her Grandmother sends along with her to Canada.
The illustrations are heart warming and nearly every page has beautifully detailed borders of actual quilts. A thoroughly charming and informative book!

Shadow Bear
Published in Library Binding by Doubleday (January, 1981)
Average review score:

A gentle, story of Eskimo boy and lovable polar bear.A sweet, gentle story of Eskimo boy and lovable polar bear. Unusually written in parallel construction, with just a touch of a similarity to "Blueberries for Sal." Educational, too, as it shows the seasons and chilling shadows of the Arctic. My whole family loved it! This is great book to read to your children on a snowy day in front of the fire, or on a hot summer day when it's nice to remember the cold chill of the Arctic.

Shining Through: Pulling It Together After Sexual Abuse
Published in Paperback by Safer Society Pr (April, 1997)
Average review score:

This is great!I am a social worker who serves child victims of sexual abuse and their non-offending caregivers. Most of the victims I see are or have been in counseling. Many still need help in working through the trauma of abuse. I have given many copies of "Shining Through" to these young ladies or their mothers. I have many books on recovering from sexual abuse but this one is the best book I've found for speaking to these young victims at their level of feeling and understanding. It is appropriate for the teen who tunes out authorities and for the girl who needs a tool for working through issues with her caregiver. I heartily recommend it.
